e-Visa to Moldova

Foreign citizens will be able to apply online for a visa to enter the Republic of Moldova.

August 1st, 2014, the Government, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova as well as with the support of the Centre for Electronic Governance, launched the e-Visa service – it is the first system allowing applicants to apply for an entry visa to the Republic of Moldova online.

This project makes an important contribution to the tourism sector and the business enviroment. On the one hand, the foreign citizens are provided with a convenient, efficient, fast and safe service. e-Visa meets all the aforementioned criteria, moreover, the digitization processes have been designed in such a way as to guarantee Internet transactions’ safety and personal data protection. On the other hand, the diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova will have a tool for effective visa applications’ management and institutional communication at their disposal.The visa applicants will have to fill in the relevant application form in electronic format and attach to it the mandatory scanned documents’ package. If the application is approved, applicants will be able to pay the consular fee also by using their bank card. After all data are processed, the visa will be sent to applicants via the email. With the printed document, visa holders may enter the Republic of Moldova through any border crossing point. e-Visa is the equivalent of the traditional visa and shall not be inserted in the passport.

e-Visa aims to compensate the Republic of Moldova diplomatic coverage (39 diplomatic missions), annulling the obligation of appearing personally at the counter, one of the greatest difficulties encountered so far by foreigners during the visa obtaining process. At the same time, the system perfectly combines the safety and security requirements.

Thus, the e-Visa service will streamline the visa obtaining process and make the Moldovan consular services employees’ work more efficient. The electronic visa system implementation will also:

  • Significantly reduces the time necessary to apply for and receive a visa;
  • The manual processing of data filled in individually by each applicant at the consular offices is no longer necessary;
  • The time spent analyzing each file is reduced as the implemented computer system makes possible to automatically verify the sets of data;
  • Provides easy access to support information in the field;
  • Reduces the number of appearances before the Moldovan consular premises.

Currently, citizens of 126 countries are obliged to hold a visa for the entry, exit or transit through the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The visas are issued exclusively by the diplomatic missions and the consular offices of the Republic of Moldova from abroad.

The e-Visa service is part of the e-Government Transformation Project, supported by the World Bank and implemented via the the Center for Electronic Governance.
